When Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself", He wasn't just talking about the guy in the house next door. Often, we sit in church and ignore the fact that our "neighbor" in the nearby pew doesn't have decent cloths or shoes to wear, cannot pay a bill, or feed his children with really nutritious food, has no health care, or just needs someone to clean his house when his wife is sick. Lazarus was in the front lawn of the rich man's house when the rich man ignored the fact that he was there, starving, sores untended, with no means to help himself. The rich man ended up in hell, and God took Lazarus to Heaven. How many Lazarus's are we ignoring? The Bible says There are many curses to him who sees a need and "looks the other way". It also says "How can the love of God be in a man if he can see his brother in need and not help him". Start looking around to see who you can help. Sometimes it's just ourselves and our time we need to share. Other times it's money or material things. The Bible says in Acts that the disciples "sold what they had until no one had a need". Would that we were all so generous. I would like to paraphrase Matthew 15:40-45 from the Bible:"As you did it to your mother, you did it to me." "As you did it to your father, you did it to me." "As you did it to your child, you did it to me." "As you did it to your husband or wife, you did it to me." "As you did it to: Your neighbor, the man/woman at the grocery store, your clients, your patients at the hospital, an inmate, the driver next to you, the stranger along the way, your teacher, your coworker, your relatives, siblings, etc., you did it to me." And I can feel Jesus saying to us, "Please give me a Merry Christmas all year through; Love one another". God Bless until the next lesson, Debbie Sutton | ||
